What Happens on the Brighton Kidney Walk?
The Brighton Kidney Walk is the place to see and be seen. The walk serves two purposes.
First, the walk is is a way for kidney disease patients and their families and friends to get the community support they need to keep on going day after day. Life with kidney disease is unbelievably hard. Kidney patients go through torture. They have their lives interrupted and changed so completely. Especially our younger adult patients. But some of them, in fact a lot of them, fight hard and survive. They decide themselves into a new life of living with kidney disease.
Second, through the Brighton Kidney Walk we're giving the community an urgent public health message: "Chronic Kidney Disease is a direct result of three factors that are an epidemic in our society today: diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity."
Did you know that preventing kidney disease is simple?
It's simple... but it's not necessarily easy. That's why 1 of every 9 people in Michigan has kidney disease, but most of them don't know it.
That's why your help and your walking with us is so important. The Brighton Kidney Walk is designed to bring many interested, concerned people together in one place to support patients who have this disease, help people understand more about kidney disease and help them learn how to prevent it.
